Be Grateful for the Mission

 Pastor Jonathan Falwell

1 Timothy 1:12-17 (CSB) I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord who has strengthened me, because he considered me faithful, appointing me to the ministry—13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an arrogant man. But I received mercy because I acted out of ignorance in unbelief, 14 and the grace of our Lord overflowed, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 This saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of them. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, so that in me, the worst of them, Christ Jesus might demonstrate his extraordinary patience as an example to those who would believe in him for eternal life. 17 Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

1. We’ve been made ready

Vs 12a I give thanks to Christ Jesus our Lord who has strengthened me…

  • Our being used by God has nothing to do with our ability but our availability
  • Phil 4:13 promises God will strengthen us to accomplish whatever He has called us to

Acts 1:8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

2. We’ve been called

Vs 12b …because he considered me faithful, appointing me to the ministry

  • Paul knew he had been called to do the work and was therefore faithful

1 Cor. 4:2 Moreover it is required of stewards that one be found faithful

Matthew 28:16-20 The eleven disciples traveled to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had directed them. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped, but some doubted. 18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

3. We’ve been forgiven

Vs 13 even though I was formerly a blasphemer, a persecutor, and an arrogant man. But I received mercy because I acted out of ignorance in unbelief

  • Your past cannot disqualify you from His future for you
  • Repentance of our sins is the prerequisite to untold impact for the Kingdom
  • Trust the promise of 1 John 1:9

4. Because it is not about us, it’s about Him

Vss 14-17 and the grace of our Lord overflowed, along with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Acts 1:8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

  • Everything we do is to honor Him
  • He paid the price for our salvation
  • He is the only one worthy of our praise
