Key Verse:   Luke 2:13-14   And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

 

Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King!
Peace on earth, and mercy mild,
God and sinners reconciled.”
Joyful, all ye nations, rise,
Join the triumph of the skies;
With th’ angelic host proclaim,
“Christ is born in Bethlehem.”
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King!

 

Christ, by highest heaven adored:
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold him come,
Offspring of the Virgin’s womb
Veiled in flesh, the Godhead see;
Hail, th’incarnate Deity:
Pleased, as man, with men to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel!
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new-born King!

 

Hail! the heaven-born Prince of peace!
Hail! the Sun of Righteousness!
Light and life to all he brings,
Risen with healing in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by,
Born that man no more may die:
Born to raise the son of earth,
Born to give them second birth.
Hark! The herald angels sing,

THE MESSENGERS – What the Bible teaches about ANGELS:

 

Angels are mentioned 273 times in the Bible…108 times in the Old Testament and 165 times in the New Testament.

 

Angels are CREATED beings.

 

“For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”   Colossians 1:16 (NIV)

 

Angels are SPIRIT beings.

 

“Hemakes His angels spirits,His ministers a flame of fire.”  Psalm 104:4 (NKJV)

 

Angels are INNUMERABLE.

 

“Then I looked, and I heard around the throne and the living creatures and the elders the voice of many angels, numbering myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands…”.  Revelation 5:11 (ESV)

 

Angels have PERSONALITIES.

 

  • Intellect – Ezekiel 28:17
  • Will – Isaiah 14
  • Emotions – Luke 2:13 / 1 Peter 1:12

 

There are RANKS of Angels

 

  • Archangels
  • Cherubim and Seraphim
  • Living creatures – (Revelation)
  • Guardian Angels – Matthew 18:10 / Hebrews 1:14

 

Angels are POWERFUL beings.

 

  • Rolled the stone away – Luke 24
  • Revelation 7, 8, 16

 

Angels are FUNCTIONAL beings.

 

  • They Worship God – “And the four living creatures, each of them with six wings, are full of eyes all around and within, and day and night they never cease to say,‘Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty,who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8 (ESV)
  • They Observe the People of God – “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10 (NKJV)
  • They Protect – “The angel of the Lordencamps all around those who fear Him…anddelivers them.”Psalm 34:7 (NKJV)
  • They Comfort – 1 Kings 19
  • They Inform and Instruct – The Story of the Birth of Christ
    • Zechariah – Luke 1:19
    • Mary – Luke 1:26
    • Joseph – Mt. 1:20 / Mt. 2:13, 19
    • Shepherds – Luke 2:9

 

 

THE MESSAGE – Christ the SAVIOR is Born

 

Mild he lays his glory by

”Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.” Philippians 2:6-7 (NLT)

 

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see

“For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body.” Colossians 2:9 (NLT)

 

Pleased as man with men to dwell

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us…”  John 1:14 (ESV)

 

“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.”                        2 Corinthians 8:9  (NKJV)

 

God and sinners reconciled

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation;that is, in Christ God was reconcilingthe world to himself…” 2 Corinthians 5:17-19

 

Light and life to all he brings

”In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”  John 1:4 (NKJV)

 

Born that man no more may die

“But we see him (Jesus) who for a little while was made lower than the angels, crowned with glory and honor because of the suffering of death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”  Hebrews 2:9 (ESV)

 

Born to give them second birth

“Jesus replied, I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” John 3:3 (NLT)
